  1. This unit does not come with a cam? Was just wondering why. I bought a cheap set with a cam and my old shovel ran like crap. The cams were not the same size(I checked with a set of mics). Will my original points cam fit on your advance mech.?
    Thanks

    1. Hi rick, Good question. I looked into making a circuit breaker cam in the U.S. to be included in the kit. Unfortunately, the cost to manufacture that part would have made the cost of the kit very prohibitive and so i decided to not do that. However, I am still looking into manufacturing a circuit breaker cam to be sold separately as a stand alone piece. Stay tunes on that project! The aftermarket cams are made in either Taiwan or Chine and do not always have the same specs as the OE you pointed out , however they are all made close to the to OE specifications and therefore should work with our advance assembly which was made to work with the OE circuit breaker cam.

  2. Hey there, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your website in Firefox, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, excellent blog!

    1. Hi Mike, I will check that out with the company that hosts this site. To be honest I am not sure which browser this site is fully compatible with!

  3. I have a customerwjo believes he is having issues with his Dynatek S ignition. He says the bike (’97 Super Glide) will only run for 4 or 5 minutesbefoe it shuts off and he has to wait for 8-10 minutes for it to cool down before he can restart, only to have it run for a shorter period before shutting down again. He’s bringing the bike into the shop in the next few days and I was looking for some insight on this issue.

    1. Hi Jimmy Have you tried to contact Dynatek? It sounds like that might be a good place to start. When there is a problem with the electronics, sometimes if you let it cool down it will re-start which is the problem you are describing.

  4. Hi,
I have just purchased one of your advance units part #1104-0001
could you tell me if the unit is pre lubricated or do I need to disassemble & do this ?
    Thanks ,Kevin

  5. What weight are the springs and at what rpm do they fully advance? I have this installed and could never get it to run on a load. Idles good though.

  6. You say that your APM Competition Master Advance Unit “FITS ALL HARLEY MODELS UP TO THE INTRODUCTION OF THE TWIN CAM MODELS” does it include my 1964 Harley Davidson FL Duo Glide that is fitted with the earlier single points distributor?

    1. HI DAVID, THE 1104-0001 ADVANCE KITS WILL ONLY FIT HD NOSE CONE TYPE IGNITIONS FROM 1970-1978. IT WILL NOT WORK IN GENERATOR MOTORS 1969 & EARLIER WITH TIMERS.

  7. Hey there, l installed this American prime advance unit on my 79 fxs, first thing l noticed was the shaft moved on the plate, l then machined downed the point cam to fit , this part was OK but the springs are just to loose for the high compression engine, so l put a full size point cam back in and works fine accept no auto advance ! I need a heavy duty quantity advance unit with good heavy springs, can you help me out ? Most of today’s advance units are crap !

    1. Hi Dennis, Unfortunately I am not really understanding what you are saying here. I would suggest you call us so we can get a little more detail. (562-321-1989).
